"Will there be a Comenius day again?"  This is what many students asked us, after we came back from Cyprus. And on wednesday, the 11th of June, the time had come.

But this time it was a special event, because we not only presented the Cypriote culture. Additionally, our students and Michael were awarded a price for their work on the multilingual audio dictionaries on the Comenius homepage. And all the students and teachers who travelled to Bulgaria, Poland, Finland and Cyprus were given so-called “Euro-Passports” which document their efforts and their knowledge in connection with their journeys.

So we divided the Comenius day into two parts: First we presented Cyprus, and then we started the “official” program.

Presentation of Cyprus:

As usual, we started with welcoming words in Greek. And, as usual, this was Michael´s part. (In fact, he has become a walking dictionary!) After that we told the students about our favourite experiences in Cyprus. Ben, for example, reported on the sport activities. His schoolmates (and teachers!) nearly couldn´t  believe that he had played Volleyball! Ahlam informed about her impressions of the trip to Nicosia, and Jessica told about the IT-Workshop.

Our next activity was dancing, and we went outside for this. Though we had chosen very simple moves, some feet were affected…But we all had great fun! At the end everyone could walk around between several tables with maps, booklets and food. Or they could listen to more music and learn some greek words with Lena. Everything was a great success.

The official program:

Many guests had come to attend the ceremony, and several speeches were held. We started with our Comenius song, performed by teachers and students.

As practical application, Michael and Ben demonstrated the use of the multilingual dictionaries for blind and for sighted people.

After that, the price and the Euro-Passports were handed over by members of the district government , the e-twinning association and our National Agency for European Programs. Every student who had worked on the dictionaries was given a certificate and some small presents. The “big” price for our school was a so-called ”SMART Board”. This is a kind of real big computer screen that can be used interactive. And in the middle of it all, our student Vito performed his text that had been rewarded in Cyprus. Again, everything was a great success. And, again, everyone is looking forward to the next Comenius day!
