Third Comenius Day at von-Vincke-School

On  the 28th of November we had our third Comenius day at von-Vincke-School. This time the students got to know some interesting facts about Finland.

As a habit we welcomed them in Finnish. (This was Michael´s part - he did a great job and the students were really impressed!) Then the students of our tenth class, Achim and Christiane performed the Finnish song "Kyllä vuotti uuta kuuta", which was a great success.

After that Johanna, Wendy and Sergej told about their impressions of Finland while a diashow completed the report. Their schoolmates were quite astonished that they really ate reindeer meat!

We wanted the  students to learn some Finnish words, too. So Michael intoduced the Small Comenius Dictionaries to them. The younger and the mentally handicapped children learned "live" with Johanna, Wendy and Sergej how to say "Hyvää Huomenta" or "Näkemiin".

Great interest caused the two Kanteles we could show the students. Some of them tried to play some tunes. Of course we offered something to eat, too: "Salmiakki", the liquorice chocolate.

The best came at the end: Our Comenius-Song "Knowledge builds Bridges", written and composed by Achim. It was performed by seven teachers and was so well recieved by the audience that they shouted for more.

All in all it was a succesfull day with lots of information and fun for the students.

Pictures and a newspaper article will follow!
