There are plenty of fascinating things to do and learn about here. There is always something new to discover in the special exhibitions. And if you like hands-on activities the show foundry is the place for you (experienced foundry workers will be on hand to help you out!). And down in the air-raid shelters you can get a taste of war and armaments, compulsory labour and the terror of air-raids. Ratty is waiting to greet his younger guests on Saturdays. And on Sundays the museum invites its guests to take a Sunday stroll and visit the ecological workshop. One of the cult activities in Hattingen is the “late shift” guided tour on Friday evenings with collier’s songs and guest entertainers.
The once „forbidden city“ of Henrichshütte has now developed into a focus of social life. The industrial museum can offer you almost everything: on the imposing site with its relics of a great working tradition, in the unique Bessemer steelworks and, of course, in the impressively designed blast engine house. Hundreds of spectators pour into the concerts and theatre shows, congresses and markets, exhibitions and conferences which take place here. Or simply to enjoy the excellent selection of food and drink in the breathtaking atmosphere of the “HENRICHS” bar and restaurant in the Henrichshütte iron and steelworks – a prime example of living industrial heritage.
