The crowds cheered in joy when the Kaiser officially opened the Henrichenburg ship lift on the 11th August 1899. Over a century later visitors to the largest construction on the Dortmund-Ems canal are equally delighted at what they can see and experience. The gigantic ship lift has lain still for over 30 years. But the history of the ship lift and the people who worked on the canal has been brought back to life in our museum. We can show you how families on the waterways worked and lived 50 years ago, and offer you a unique collection of historic boats and other floating equipment, some of which even go into operation on special occasions. During the summer season a pleasure steamer departs from the museum quay several times a day. Climb aboard!
Guided tours in English are offered. They last 1.5 hours, cost 52 € plus admission and have to be booked in advance. Please contact the museum for further information. An English brochure is also available. Furthermore we offer brochures in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, and Polish.
