The place stinks of oil and sweat, and the spinning machines clatter so loudly that you have to hold your fingers to your ears. But what you experience on your visit to our textile museum was nothing more than everyday life for thousands of men and women 100 years ago.
Our factory museum will show you how the rhythm of the machines dictated the speed of work. It is an authentic reconstruction of a typical cotton mill in the West Münsterland region, of which there were very many. Every day our staff weave cloth on the old handlooms for the historic collection. You are welcome to stand and watch them and experience the loud, dusty and arduous conditions under which textile workers had to labour. In an adjacent textile workers house – complete with a garden – you can find out more about the everyday life of the workers’ families.
Guided tours in English are offered. They last 1 hour and cost 47 €, 1,5 hours and cost 52 € or 2 hours and cost 67 € plus admission and have to be booked in advance.
