An event for everybody in and from Westphalia

On November 18 2005, the Commission for Ethnology and Folklore in Westphalia (Volkskundliche Kommission) together with the Seminar for Volkskunde/European Ethnology at Münster University calls on everybody in Westphalia and Lippe to write a report on how they spent their day. Today, many different cultures live together. But we know little about their everyday life. Therefore, we are asking you, if you live in Westphalia or Lippe, or feel involved with the region, to tell us about your day. Everybody can join us regardless of their passport or origin. You can write to us in the language with which you feel most comfortable: in German or any other language and you can hand-write or type your report.

Everyday tales

Whatever is not fixed in history books can easily be forgotten after only one generation. Thus, we are asking you: how do you spend your day? Write to us about your November 18 2005 and tell people today and in the future about your life. Who woke you up that morning? Where and what did you eat? Did you like the food? How was work? What were your thoughts, your hopes, your fears? What are your plans for the future? Some people will record every minute, what they have done and felt, others will only report the most important parts of their day. You decide what you would like to tell us. And we are looking forward to your account.

What your letter should include

We need to put your tales in context, therefore we need some information about you. Please tell us
- your sex
- your year of birth
- your place of birth
- your marital status
- your place of residence
- your profession or job
You can sign with your name or remain anonymous.

What will happen with your letter?

We will collect all letters and store them for the future in the archive of the Volkskundliche Kommission. Thus, you will never be forgotten. Data protection is guaranteed, all letters will be anonymised. In one year, on November 18 2006, we will present you with the first results of this appeal in a book. Your account could be part of this book.
