Journey

By car
In and around Detmold you will find signboards showing the way to the museum. Coming from a motorway it is easy to find the museum:

Coming from the north: leave the A2 autobahn at the exit for Herford/Bad Salzuflen, follow route B 239 to Detmold/Horn-Bad Meinberg, and in Detmold, follow the signs for „Freilichtmuseum“.

Coming from the west: leave the A2 autobahn at the exit no. 27 for “Kreuz Bielefeld Zentrum” follow route B 66 to Lage/Lemgo, and in Lage route B 239 to Detmold/Horn-Bad Meinberg.

Coming from the south: leave the A 33 autobahn at the exit no. 26 for Paderborn-Elsen, follow route B 1 in direction Hameln/Horn-Bad Meinberg, get off at the exit Altenbeken/Horn in direction Horn, follow the signs to Detmold,.

By bus
On work days Bus number 701 (via railway station), stops every quarter of an hour, on Saturdays half-hourly, on Sundays and holidays hourly near our museum site. (Bus stop “Freilichtmuseum”) For further information on bus transfer please refer to www.stadtverkehr-detmold.de.

By bicycle
Near the entrance you will find bike racks and lockers. There is a bicycle lane called “Allee” from Detmold to the Open-Air Museum, running alongside Paderborner Straße. Additionally, the museum has been registered in the “Radverkehrsnetz NRW” (bicycle route map) on the internet (Wellness-Route). For more information please refer to: www.radverkehrsnetz.nrw.de.
