"Age Matters" – Na veku záleží
The project is designed to prevent youth from getting access to tobacco products what is in line with Law on Protection of nonsmokers 377/2004.
According to estimates, as many as 55 percent of the Slovak teenagers smoke.
Project trains retailers by informing them about the law, their responsibilities, and how best to prevent sales to children – by audiovisual imitations of real model situations when selling tabacco products to minors. In line with Article 16 of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, retailers receive signage to indicate that selling to minors is illegal.
One part of the project is communication with professional and general public through billboards about necessity to adhere to Law Protection of nonsmokers 377/2004 – parts that deal about sale of tabacco products to minors, with impacts of breaking the law.
The project tries to prevent tobacco dealers from making cigarettes available to children and also teaches dealers not to sell cigarettes to youth.
The company has decided to address 8,500 tobacco retailers and, apart from providing them with the legislative background in the tobacco field, the shops will receive ban signs stating that customers under 18 will not be sold cigarettes.
